real reviews · Roots & Resilience 2025

Voices from the last Roots retreat.

The Roots & Resilience retreat in Kelani was simply wonderful. The organization was top-notch, and the welcoming, family-like atmosphere was especially lovely. The location is fantastic — next door is the wonderful Meraki, which serves excellent coffee and snacks and has a beautiful yoga shala. The beach is within walking distance. I felt completely at home. They gave us valuable tips about everything nearby — bike and scooter rentals, laundry, restaurants, the way to the beach, snorkeling trips. We would love to come back.

I had an amazing week at Kelani Retreats. The house is beautiful, and the outdoor yoga shala is absolutely stunning. The Roots & Resilience retreat with Mia was exactly what I needed. The yoga sessions and workshops were inspiring, and everything was thoughtfully organised. Madiha is a lovely spot in Sri Lanka, with great coffee bars and the beach just a short walk away. I highly recommend this place!

questions?

The honest answers.

Do I need yoga experience?
No. Mia adjusts to the room. Beginners and experienced practitioners share the same mat space, and nobody is behind.
Is this therapy?
No. The workshops are psychology and practical tools, not treatment. For deeper work there are professionals — Mia will say so herself.
Are the cacao ceremony and workshops mandatory?
Nothing is mandatory. Show up where it serves you. The hammock is always an option.
Can I come alone?
Most of our guests do. By Tuesday the table feels like dinner with friends. Single rooms are limited, but we have a fair single-supplement policy — ask us.
What about food allergies?
Tell us when you book. The kitchen is mostly veggie by default, fish on request, and Manjula adjusts for whatever you need.
What if I need to cancel?
50% deposit within 14 days of booking secures your spot, the balance is due 30 days before arrival. After that, no refunds — we recommend travel insurance.
